| FIND OUT Young Asian people are being encouraged to use Tameside Central Library as part of our Everybody's Reading project. Bilingual literature is available and new Islamic book have been purchased. A series of different events have been held inside and outside the library. Site Night was held to encourage reading via the Internet, the Asian Arts festival involved people discovering the history of Asia. To find out more about the events click here. Throughout all stages of the project, the target group was involved and became enthusiastic. There is a definite 'buzz' to Ashton Central Library as a direct result of the partnership arrangements that have evolved and the links made are, very strong and set to continue. The Asian community is very diverse the so many different languages and religions, that is why it's difficult to target this group but there is a universal Asian language and that is "BOLLYWOOD". The favourite magazine among this group was Cineblitz, this is a mag packed with film reviews, posters about bollywood. With young men I found that the Guinness Book of records was their favourite book. The girls voted for any book that gave detailed drawings and patterns on Body Art (Henna). The best website which they all voted for was www.planetbollywood.com |
