FIND OUT

Whatever you're into and wherever you get it, Everybody's Reading can take your reading onto a new level. From Birkenhead to Warrington, libraries across the Northwest are joining forces to promote today's best reading.

It's not just about books - Everybody's Reading is about all kinds of reading, from web sites to cult novels, because reading:

enhances the quality of life: people read because they love it; reading empowers people

builds a creative nation: the act of reading is highly creative and it underpins writing and the creative industries

promotes literacy and lifelong learning: people who read have flexible minds and are open to wider learning opportunities

And it's even not just about reading - this project is about being creative, giving your own views and getting involved.

Wirral Libraries are taking a leaf out of the book of some local pubs and clubs by introducing an 'happy hour'
Free Internet, word processing and e-mail sessions start on 4th February and will be held on either a Monday evening or Saturday morning so contact your local library for details.
Also keep a look out for an on-line reading group, through which you can give your opinions to the world on books, dvds, computer games through the wonders of the world wide web!

Event 3

title: Lord of the Rings Event
date: To be confirmed

description: This new initiative is encouraging hundreds of new teenage library users by capitalising on the current craze for Lord of the Rings. Two libraries in Wirral will hold themed gaming sessions in collaboration with Games Workshop, who have produced the strategy battle game which accompanies the recently released film.

Games Workshop staff will use sessions in libraries throughout the country to talk teenagers through the rules, play the game alongside them and encourage them to make their own epic journey into the unknown - by suggesting some related reading material such as fantasy and adventure books. It is hoped that the initiative will be particularly effective in encouraging teenage boys to read more - a group who are traditionally very difficult for libraries to attract.
